Here are some of the baby gear that you should purchase, and it is highly recommended to do the shopping well before the little one arrives – better be safe than sorry!
I have spent hundreds of hours researching the best baby gear on the market. These items can be recommended without any equivocation.
Keep in mind, however, that these items are not necessarily all the highest-end items. My goal on this page is to recommend gear that is priced really well while still maintaining a high-quality standard.
#1 Bedding And Bed Accessories
When it comes to bedding, there are four essential things that you need to purchase: the crib, the crib mattress, a properly fitted crib sheet as well as a mesh crib liner.
You should look for a sturdy crib that is easy to assemble and that will be able to withstand the seemingly energy of the little one – most of the cribs these days come with mattresses, but if you have spotted the perfect crib and it happens to be mattressless, then you need to buy one that matches.
Make sure the distance between the crib rails and the mattress is not bigger than two fingers, otherwise the little one may hurt himself.
Also, the crib sheet must be properly fitted as well in order to reduce the risk for SIDS
#2 Changing Items
This is one of the least pleasant parts of parenting, yet somebody has to do it. There are several changing items and accessories that you need to purchase before the little one is born, such as the changing table, the changing bad, diapers (make sure you have enough of them), diaper bins and bags, baby wipes as well as a diaper rash cream.
The changing mat or pad is particularly important for the nappy changing process, as it will protect both the baby and your home from the “accidental baby surprises”.
The baby wipes must have a neutral pH and they must be specially created for the sensitive skin of your child, while the diaper rash cream is perfect for treating the so-common diaper rash that can cause a lot of discomfort for the little one.
#3 A Good And Steady Travel System
Your newborn baby will stay indoor for a few days or weeks after he is born, as his immune system is very fragile at first. However, once you decide to take the little one out for some air, it is important to have a good travel system to rely on.
You should opt for a jogging baby stroller if you are the type of parent who loves to stay fit – on the other hand, if you have to run errands on a daily basis or you are always on the go and you need to take the baby with you, then make sure to buy a versatile travel system that comes with a special infant seat that can be easily attached to your car’s back seat.
Regardless of your choice, it is crucial to look for travel systems that have advanced safety features such as the five point harness.
#4 A Baby Monitor
Baby monitors have evolved a lot, and you can either buy a video baby monitor and a baby movement monitor separately, or you can invest in a state of the art baby monitoring system that has advanced features and functions, including the two-way communication and the video surveillance system with sound-triggered or movement-trigger alarms.
That being said, if the master bedroom is not exactly close to the nursery, it is vital to buy a long-range baby monitor otherwise you may experience some interference.
Moreover, you should also look for one that comes with pre-set lullabies that will soothe the little one whenever he wakes up in the middle of the night: you can select the lullabies quickly and effortlessly, from the comfort of your bed.
#5 Baby Bath Products
The baby bath products (the bathing tub, the bath towel, the receiving blanket and all the cosmetics) should be specifically designed for newborns.
Parents must be extra careful when bathing the little one, as the head of the newborn is particularly fragile – also, make sure to look only for towels and blankets made from organic materials.
#6 Breast Feeding Products
The newborn baby is not the only one that requires some extra products, as the mother needs to have several nursing bras and pads, a breast pump as well as a nursing pillow.
Breasts can become very swollen and tender during the breast feeding process, and a gentle yet efficient breast pump will certainly come in handy!
#7 Baby Clothes
Last, but not least, it is important to have enough clothes for the little one, including short sleeve bodysuits for night time, sleep n plays, baby caps, baby socks, a swaddle, a cardigan and scratch mittens.
Once again, look for clothing made exclusively from organic materials, as this is the only way to be sure that the baby will not develop an allergic reaction or a bad rash due to the countless chemicals found in regular clothes these days.
